The Genetics Division contributes to the Science Beyond the School program. This initiative is developed by students and faculty of the Graduate Program in Structural and Functional Biology at UNIFESP and aims to provide children and adolescents from public schools with the opportunity to engage with the academic and scientific environment. At the same time, it offers master’s and doctoral students the opportunity to develop teaching experience with non-academic audiences.
The program consists of half-day activities that combine a theoretical session, in which scientific concepts are presented in an accessible and engaging way, with practical activities designed to illustrate these concepts and demonstrate that science is not confined to textbooks, but is present in everyday life. It also provides participants with the valuable experience of being in a university setting.
The main topics covered include Anatomy, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Genetics, and Histology, reflecting the core areas of the graduate program involved.
